On a Sunday morning last fall during Pastor’s sermon he made the statement “There is no reason why Faith Assembly Church can’t do a million dollars for missions.  The room was still.  I sat there like many of you thinking…Is He Crazy?  A million dollars for missions?  My head tells me- Yeah Right! 

But my heart tells me- Why not?  Luke 1:37 “For nothing is impossible with God”   So I prayed “Lord, show me the possibilities!”  It was through that simple prayer that God has renewed in me a greater passion & new perspective for missions.  

We must:

1. Focus on the possibilities  - God will do it
2. Stop negative attitudes – Like the church is to small
3. Stop limiting God- Take Him at His word
4. Realize that missions is not just about the money

   But what it’s worth…SOULS FOR THE KINGDOM 

1Peter 2:9-10 (Message) But you are the ones chosen by God, Chosen to the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be holy people, Gods instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the (night and day) difference he made for you- nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. 

All too often we stereotype missions as an individual or individual family serving in foreign countries spreading the good news yet we are all missionaries.  Each of us has an integral part to play in winning souls for the kingdom.  Whatever your part, you are of value to the team. 

So, if it’s not just about the money what is it about?  Missions is threefold- Service, Evangelism and Finance.  Everything we do has a value.  Weather it is praying, participating in outreach, ministering in our church or going on a mission’s trip. 

Our goal for 2009 is: ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN VALUE FOR MISSIONS 

In order to meet our goal we need Agents like you.   We currently have positions available for:

  Communication Specialist – (Prayer) $1 per minute

Pray for our missionaries, their countries and their programs

Field Agents- (Outreach Service) $300 per mission

Helping someone, agency, or organization outside our church doors

Internal Affairs- (InReach Service) $100 per mission

Helping ministries inside our church…. Greeter, Teacher, Janitor, Café, Office Help

Liaison Officer-(Encourager/Hospitality) $100 per mission

Directly encouraging our pastor, missionaries and their programs…send cards, meet the needs of family left behind, take them to dinner, provide a place to stay

Informant/Embedded Operative- (Evangelism) $3000 per mission

Sharing the Good News…Service projects…Feed My Starving Children (May) or Trips…South Dakota (July)…East St. Louis (Aug)

Service Support Officer- (Giver) $ for $

Giving a Faith Promise weekly, monthly or yearly to missions and programs you help financially support outside our church…World Vision etc…..

Each mission has been given a point value.  Throughout the week or month as you complete your mission, tally up your points on your Missions Value Point Sheet and drop it off at the missions table. As we all do our part I know we will reach and exceed our goal.

This is a time that has been set aside to focus on our church calling and purpose “A Family Whose Purpose is People!”. This night there is no service, only a family style dinner where members bring in a main course and desserts for a family get-together. Once the meal is done we have games and conversation, that's it. We can focus on getting to know each other better and cementing closer bonds and friendships.

Here's the good part, it is open to the community because we consider everyone part of our family and anyone who is interested can come and participate.
